Launch of the Hungarian Student Branch Chapter

2nd International Youth Conference of Energy, June 3-6, 2009, Budapest, Hungary

Between June 3 and June 6, 2009 the Budapest University of Technology and Economics hosted guests from 20 countries. 62 presenters and almost the same number of visitors followed the invitation of the Student Association of Energy (http://www.eszk.org/) to attend the IYCE 2009 (http://www.iyce2009.org/). The conference was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society, sponsored amongst others by R8 Committee, supported by the R8 CCSC.

On June 4, the opening ceremony included a speech from Józef Modelski, R8 Director. We believe that the outcome of the conference was in agreement with his greetings: “I hope IYCE 2009 will be productive and enjoyable for all of you. I wish you a very fruitful and pleasant conference.” At the plenary session, the keynote speeches were started by Rami T Al-Muschab who held a presentation titled Technological Challenges Facing the Oil & Gas Industry. This presentation was followed by four others covering many current problems of energetics.

The conference program included an IEEE round table discussion organized by Péter Magyar, R8 CCSC Chair, IAS Chapters and Membership Department Chair, and Tamás Ruzsányi, R8 CCSC Power Chapter Group Coordinator, IAS R8 Chapters Area Chair. 13 presentations about IEEE, and IAS, and R8, and CCSC and local chapter activities were delivered for the members of the newly created IEEE Budapest University of Technology and Economics Joint IAS/PES Student Branch Chapter. The new SB Chapter is the 445th chapter of R8 and the 125th chapter of IAS. The foundation of the Chapter creating had been initialized and supported by the IAS Chapters and Membership Department.

The success of IYCE 2009 has encouraged the Student Association of Energy and the Hungarian IAS/PES Student Branch Chapter to organize IYCE 2011 in international cooperation.
